Reviews REX SPECS
I originally found Rex Specs because my toy poodle is aging and as a result, has retinal degeneration. When he goes out into the light, he flinches horribly, his pupils don't react fast enough and too much light comes in. This is a horrifying thing to watch, needless to say, so I started researching eye wear for dogs. Obviously Rex Specs are top of the price list compared to others. If you buy equipment for your dogs, for adventures, exercise or work, you already know as a pet parent that price is going to be reasonably higher for something to perform properly. I have been wearing sunglasses since high school and never stopped to think about protecting my dogs eyes. I'm elated to find Rex Specs. So, I purchased a pair not only for my aging pooch but my other two as well.
Pros: I am an Oakley user for decades and lenses are made of same material poly carbonate. Oakley refines the PC to their proprietary lens, but base material is the same
PC lens filters out 99.9% of UV rays which cause the oxidative damage to the eyes, wearing Rex Specs will help keep current eye condition from progressing
The frame is flexible enough to bend, adjust for lens change and major movements from your pooch, so they are extremely resistant to breaking or scratching
Adjustable straps for proper fit
Have already used them in water, dirt, wind, sun and rain, googles stayed on the entire time, only tip I suggest is rinsing them off and keeping the lens as clean as possible before each use
Cons: lens scratch easily, BUT they are impact resistant (don't break easily at all) and filter almost 100% of UV rays, this material is what is best for it's current function, thus ordering replacement lenses has been facilitated with a very affordable price
Googles in general are a bit pricey at an average price of 79.95. Although you may want to ask yourself how much you spend on your sunglasses and what your dog's vision is worth to you to protect
Dear Nice Rex Specs Folks
My poodle-yorkie Eek always loved the outdoors but had been squinting more and more for a few months then just refused to walk on the beach, put her head down and was clearly uncomfortable. She had lost her pupillary reflex - her pupils stay fully dilated all the time. The doc at Western Canada Veterinary Eye Specialists diagnosed her with iris atrophy and prescribed Rex Specs to make her more comfortable and improve her vision in sunlight. They are phenomenal!!!
The specs arrived in 11 days (great service over the border). I had watched all the videos on your site and expected a significant period of acclimatizing to the headwear and then lenses....BUT we popped them on her on a sunny beach and she just took off like a puppy!!! She wears them for hours and within a day started asking me to put them on her. She is back to her old self - loving the sun, playing with her little sister Goose, romping everywhere. And she gets lots of smiles and cuddles from all kinds of people...it takes us an hour longer to get home as we stop and chat with everyone. Little children with glasses are especially drawn to her.
I just ordered a spare set and really like the choice of lens opacities for different weather.
Thank you for giving us the opportunity to explore more trails and beaches again.
I have a miniature Daschund that loves to ride on the Harley with dad. I’ve purchased Doggles for her. I don’t want to speak bad about them as they have a good product, they just didn’t fit my pup right. With the shape of her head and the design of the Doggles, she had to point her nose at the ground and look up to see anything. I was considering trying the Rex Specs for months until I finally got drunk enough to hit the button and spend that much on dog goggles... I must say, I’m impressed. They really fit well and she can see. She hasn’t tried to get them off as we are riding like she did with the Doggles. these are a well made product. They really made goggles to fit a dogs head and be functional, not a fashion statement. I give them 27 1/2 stars.
I just wanted to share with you how happy Maverick is with his new Rex Specs. Mav only has peripheral vision and his pupils don’t get small in sunlight, so we needed sunglasses to protect his little eyes. I had emailed your company a couple of times with questions because I had already purchased other sunglasses that didn’t work for him because they blocked his peripheral vision. You were quick to respond, gave specific instructions on how to train him to wear them, and assured me that if they didn’t work, I could send them back. I bit the bullet and bought them and they are everything we needed them to be. Thank you!! Shari and Mav
