Rex Specs In Action
Hans is only 2 years old and was diagnosed with moderate chronic superficial keratitis or pannus affecting both eyes. As a young German Shepherd he’s full of energy and the Colorado sun makes controlling the disease difficult. However, our eye specialist vet recommended REX specs and they’re a game changer for Hans! It only took a day for Hans to get used to his goggles and they stay on whether he’s hiking, exploring or playing fetch! He’s so young for his eye disease but REX specs allows him to continue his activities while protecting his eyes and he looks pretty cool wearing them! So many people comment on his REX specs and it gives me the opportunity to familiarize people with his genetic eye disease which is surprisingly common especially in germans something I was unaware of despite having a healthy 10 year old German Shepherd too. Hans has so many adventures ahead of him and REX specs are his favorite protective gear!
Moose is hard to please in the eye ware department, but he loves these! Perfect for our winter trip hiking in Montana!!
Right out of the box I was able to quickly adjust these to my dogs head. We followed the recommendations and practiced without lenses and slowly worked our way up to the mirrored lenses. He does not mind wearing them! Cannot wait to take them on our next big winter Colorado 14er.
His eyes are protected now, so he can hunt for many years!
After my French Brittany ended up with a foreign object lodged in her corena, the surgeon recommended Rex Specs. She has adapted well to them and I feel they will help save an eye. She wears them in the field and while doing odor detection work.
If your dog likes to dig like mine, they shove their face into the dirt and foliage, scratch their eyes and have to go to the vet. You take time off work, worry about their well being. But I now have TWO of these! And they allow my baby to dig up and eat anything she can with no worry about her injuring her eyes. They have more than paid for themselves in vet visits, eye medication, and emotional pain in worrying about her well being. Just buy one if you are considering it. You won't go wrong. Of course it takes some time for the dog to get used to them, but when they are having fun, they will ignore them.
Thought there was going to be no way that Omnom wasn’t going to last 2 minutes with it on because he is immediately taking off costumes. After alot of training and treats later just like rexspecs advised, he doesnt fuss over them anymore. Has them on every time he goes with me on a motorcycle ride. Definitely gets smiles on the road.
We got RexSpecs over a year ago. I do have to say they have been an injury saver! At 160+ pounds Ody loves to take car rides and to stick his big old dome out the window to catch the breeze and be a noisy neighbor. Without his RexSpecs I know he’d have had an eye injury by now. We don’t do ultimate sports, we do leisurely rides on back roads where gravel and bugs fly. Thanks for thinking and making a product that is proactive in safety for our pups! Plus he looks very handsome ordering a puppaccino!
I love the Rex Specs! I use them for my 2 husky's, which go mushing a lot with me. During mushing, their faces get very dirty and a lot of mud and sand will get inti their eyes. One of them also has very light blue eyes, so when it's very sunny outside she can't see very well. With the smoke lense she can do everything! I'm very happy I bought these goggles!
Well-built quality and comfort in mind. All it took was few short training sessions.
Love these goggles. They work perfectly to protect vulnerable eyes when my boys are clearing stubborn cattle out of thorny brush where a horse won't fit.
Boodles took to them quickly. The ex small fit is spot on. Her medical condition requires a cone long term to save her remaining eye. It was recommended to try the Rex Specs. I’m very pleased. She is as well. She can ditch her cone and wear the Specs when supervised. The goggles have given her freedom.
The setup guide was helpful, it took some time but I got them to fit my pups comfortably. My Schnauzers need a fresh facial hair trim for best fit, they act as of they aren't wearing goggles as long as they stay active. Both dogs like to rest in the shade without goggles, they both had more stamina and made friends with dozens of other hikers.
I never write product reviews, but I feel this product definitely deserves it! We purchased ear protection to take our Standard Poodle out to Glamis Sand Dunes for New Years Eve weekend. It can get really loud out there, but the fireworks and amount of vehicles is the greatest during this weekend. When they were shooting fireworks Buzz would bark and be scared out of his mind. After putting on his ear protection he could tolerate the noise. He wanted to be outside with me, but was no longer barking or hiding due to the noise. He did need to sleep with them on the night of New Years Eve due to fireworks lasting well into the night.
Things to note:
I measured him before purchasing. I felt the fit around this throat seemed pretty tight. I often wondered if it was too tight, but after wearing multiple times I think that’s the way it needs to fit.
He was not a fan of them at first. He didn’t fight me, but you could tell by the white showing in his eyes he wasn’t happy. I used a high value treat when putting them on. They just take time to get used to.
I was unsure how to put them over his floppy ears. At first I was fixing his ears and trying to make them flat while adjusting them, but he didn’t seem to like that. I found the most comfortable fit was to naturally allow his ears to go back and leave them alone. The tips of his ears would hang slightly out the bottom. He seemed to be the most content this way.
Overall I highly recommend this product. There is no doubt in our mind that they reduce noise to a tolerable amount. Now our Dune Dog can continue to go on adventures with us with the peace of mind that he is comfortable and safe.
Decided to get these b/c Tinker is diabetic and had cataract surgery last year. I was concerned about stuff flying into her eyes. She's adapted pretty well to it in the car after a short period of training (2 meals). Although i'm training her to wear it a little longer. During fireworks, we put it on her b/c she gets scared easily and hides in a dark corner. I think she felt safer with it on... like she was invisible or hidden or something. She didn't find a corner to hide.
