V2 Lens Guide

Rex Specs lenses are all engineered from premium materials to provide protection from anything your dog may encounter. All of our lenses are impact resistant and UV 400 rated, blocking 99% of harmful UVA and UVB rays. Below is our lens guide to help you decide which lens is right for your pup.

  • Clear

Allows 92% of visible light to pass. For everything except protection from brightness (still UV 400). Perfect training lens.

  • Smoke

Allows 20% of light to pass. For everything! Overall, the most versatile lens. Great for dogs that are rough on their equipment as it continues to offer visibility when scratched.

  • Red Mirror

Allows 23% of light to pass. Giddy up! The red mirror is great for most dogs and is very similar to the smoke lens with a bit more style.

  • Silver Mirror

Allows 13% of light to pass. STYLE! Add some flavor to the daily grind with our darkest lens, making it the best option if your dog has light sensitivity.

  • Blue Mirror

Allows 15% of light to pass. DMs are rolling in! The blue mirror lens adds a touch of flair and is one of our darker lenses for dogs who have sensitivity to light. Perfect for use in sunny areas and for those who love that blue mirror look!

  • Pink Mirror

Allows 37% of light to pass. Looks Cool. Pairs well with long walks on the beach and a glass of pinot doggio.

  • Purple Mirror

Allows 27% of light to pass. If you don’t get the pink lens, get the purple one - it’s that simple - duh.

  • Yellow

Allows 87% of light to pass. Similar transparency as clear - but looks cooler on the range or during your next night operation.

  • Green

Allows 16% of light to pass. A darker lens for those who need it. Slap this on your pup and channel their inner HULK!

How to switch the lenses out

  • 1. Remove Lens

Remove the lens by grabbing the muzzle area and top area of the goggle and pull apart.

  • 2. Insert New Lens

Start putting the new lens into the frame by engaging the two tabs located at the muzzle area of the goggle.

Next, engage the side tabs one at a time if your goggle has them. Make sure these are clicked in all the way before moving to the tabs along the top of the goggle.

Line up, then engage the upper side tabs. Save the top middle tab for last!

  • Pro Tip:

If you’re having a hard time engaging some of the tabs, wiggle the frame/lens back and fourth to find the sweet spot.

Got questions about how to swap your lenses?

Customers said these replacement lenses provide excellent eye protection for dogs with conditions like pannus and blindness. "Fantastic, and make it so my dog doesn't have a miserable life," one shopper noted. While praised for fit, UV protection, and style variety, the main concern is scratch susceptibility—lenses often need replacing after days or weeks of active use.

Rex Specs help my blind dog build up confidence!

My two year old Welsh Springer Spaniel recently became fully blind from glaucoma, and Rex Specs helped her tremendously to build up confidence and enjoy the activities she used to do before blindness. Not sure that she’ll ever be her former self exuberant and superbly athletic sporting dog, still early to tell, but she can walk through brush and sniff around in our woodland, and hang out on the beach without a danger of injuring her eyes. She is staring to run again in open areas she already mapped. We got her the pink and blue replacement lenses which also offer the protection from the sun besides being incredibly cool looking!

I think she looks like a star ✨

You know I hear lots of folks say the lenses get scratched. Well duh, but I don't think my dog minds. Not sure if the mirrored lenses can be polished but I didn't even think about replacement on the original smoke lens.

I love the new ones, I just think purple 💜 and pink 🩷 look great on my little gal.

Rex Specs V2 Replacement Lenses

The lenses scratch way too easily.. Our dog is an avid swimmer and we want to protect her eyes from sun glare on the water and from debris in and out of the water. After two or three outings the lenses are so scratched up we have to change them so she can see. They also seem to pop out easily while she is wearing them. There needs to be a redesign to hold the lens more securely and the straps need to be made of more durable material. We paid approximately $80 for the V2 lenses and now we are constantly having to buy replacement lenses. This has become a financial burden just to protect our fur baby's eyes.

Added bonus for our reactive dog, but durability is a letdown

We have two dogs and two pairs of V2 goggles, and we really enjoy the reflective lens inserts. An unintended but incredible benefit is how they help our reactive dogs—other dogs tend to break their stare when they see the reflection, which significantly lowers tension and reactivity during walks. For that reason alone, they are a game-changer.
The Longevity Issue:
The primary problem is that they scratch far too easily. We’ve used both sets for just over a month, and the lenses already show significant wear. For the price point and the brand's reputation for "adventure-proof" gear, these need a much more robust scratch-resistant coating. It’s disappointing to see them degrade so quickly across multiple pairs.
Training Tip:
If you are training your pup as a new goggle user, definitely use the clear or smoke lenses that come with the V2 frames first. Let them get through the "pawing and rubbing" phase before you swap in these reflective ones, as the mirrored finish just isn't durable enough for the learning curve.

Great for Pannus

My German Shepherd was diagnosed with pannus, which results from over-exposure to UV radiation. Since wearing these goggles, her pannus has stopped progressing, and her eyes look great. The only issue is that these lenses scratch easily, and it is taking many weeks (six to date) to reduce her urge to pull them off by rubbing against the ground or a bush. I don't know how long before she gives up totally. In the meantime, I need to replace lenses regularly (weekly at first, currently ever two weeks). Bottom-line, the UV-400 protection works! The other issue is that on a humid day, the lenses get condensation on them, which impairs her vision. So, I need to stop every 100 meters to wipe them dry, the same as I do when it is raining.

Goggles

These are great goggles so easy to wear my dog is very comfortable in them and it protects his eyes when he is in his car rides. Most of his rides are in the evening and the clear lens makes him enjoy his car rides even more

The Best Protection

My lovely Brody had eye surgery after somethiing miniscule got lodged in his eye causing a huge infection. The wonderful surgeon not only saved his eye but he got his sight back. He loves to go into the woods and I thank you everyday for your Repacement lenses and goggles which protect him. Plus he looks like Super Dog!

Look great! Scratch easily.

Keira received her replacement Himalayan Pink goggles along with a new Purple Mirror lens. We LOVE the colors and they go so well together! The only downside is that the mirrored lenses are not very scratch resistant. She's worn them for about two weeks now and the lens has a considerable amount of visible scratch marks. The standard clear and dark smoked lenses are much more durable in that regard. Other than that, we love em!

The price far exceeds the durability.

I am happy to protect my dogs vision, though the lenses are far too expensive to be this easy to scratch and gouge.
The fit of the frame of the goggles is very nice on my dog's face but the lenses get destroyed in one day of my dog running around and just being a dog. A person could buy multiple frames and lenses from competing companies for a partial cost of one frame and set of lenses from Rex.
They should make the lenses more durable. It is a little ridiculous to pay this high a cost for lenses that aren't any more durable than the far more affordable brands out there. I'm not sure why they are so costly when they don't perform any better than cheaper goggles.
The Rex frames do fit much nicer than other brands but to constantly replace the lenses for just casual use is silly. If the dog is playing with other dogs or she decides the goggles are itchy and she rolls in the grass there goes another set of lenses. If she happens to paw at the glasses there will be multiple scratches or gouges on the lens and after a couple days of this the lenses are basically useless to see out of.I give the frame five stars but the lenses are just blah and I wish I hadn't bought them knowing what I do know about them now. The lens wraps I hoped would protect the lens, but they just scratch up as easily.
I have posted pics of the new Rex specs on one dog and a pic of both dogs ,with one in Rex specs and the other in a cheaper brand in front Look great out of the box and fresh. Also pics of the standard Rex lens after 5 days of use, they are Very hard to see out of now as you can probably tell Besides the frame, it is hard to differentiate between the products lenses.
Normally I wouldn't write a bad review but they keep sending me emails to review them so here it is.
